Crystal structure of 1-bromo-4-methane-sulfonyl-2,3-di-methyl-benzene.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C9H11BrO2S, is an important inter-mediate in the synthesis of the herbicide Topramezone. In the crystal, there are weak inter-molecular Br⋯O inter-actions of 3.286 (4) Å. The dihedral angle between the plane of the benzene ring and that defined by the O-S-O atoms of the methane-sulfonyl group is 49.06 (3)°.

Project description:The title compound, C26H22N4 (I), was synthesized by C-H iridium-catalyzed borylation followed by Suzuki coupling. The mol-ecular structure of (I) consists of a central benzene ring with 3-di-methyl-quinoxalin-6-yl groups at the 1 and 3 positions. These 2,3-di-methyl-quinoxalin-6-yl groups twist significantly out of the plane of the benzene ring. There are inter-molecular π-π inter-actions which result in a two-dimensional extended structure. The layers extend parallel to the ab plane and stack along the c axis.

Project description:The title compound, C20H20Br4N2, is a product of the condensation reaction of 4,6-di-bromo-2,3-di-methyl-aniline and butane-2,3-dione. The mol-ecule has a center of symmetry at the mid-point of the central C-C bond. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the 1,4-di-aza-butadiene plane is 78.3 (2)°. Niether hydrogen bonding nor aromatic stacking is observed in the crystal structure.

Project description:The crystal structures of three isomeric compounds of formula C14H13Cl2NO2S, namely 3,5-di-chloro-N-(2,3-di-methyl-phen-yl)-benzene-sulfonamide (I), 3,5-di-chloro-N-(2,6-di-methyl-phen-yl)benzene-sulfonamide (II) and 3,5-di-chloro-N-(3,5-di-methyl-phen-yl)benzene-sulfonamide (III) are described. The mol-ecules of all the three compounds are U-shaped with the two aromatic rings inclined at 41.3 (6)° in (I), 42.1 (2)° in (II) and 54.4 (3)° in (III). The mol-ecular conformation of (II) is stabilized by intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π inter-actions. The crystal structure of (I) features N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonded R22(8) loops inter-connected via C(7) chains of C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional architecture. The structure also features π-π inter-actions [Cg⋯Cg = 3.6970 (14) Å]. In (II), N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonded R22(8) loops are inter-connected via π-π inter-actions [inter-centroid distance = 3.606 (3) Å] to form a one-dimensional architecture running parallel to the a axis. In (III), adjacent C(4) chains of N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonded mol-ecules running parallel to [010] are connected via C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming sheets parallel to the ab plane. Neighbouring sheets are linked via offset π-π inter-actions [inter-centroid distance = 3.8303 (16) Å] to form a three-dimensional architecture.

Project description:In the title compound, C11H7Br3ClN, the quinoline ring system is approximately planar (r.m.s. = 0.011 Å). In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯Br inter-actions forming chains along [10-1]. The chains are linked by C-H⋯π and π-π inter-actions involving inversion-related pyridine rings [inter-centroid distance = 3.608 (4) Å], forming sheets parallel to (10-1). Project description:The title compound, C14H13NO5S, was synthesized via a nucleophilic substitution reaction between 3,5-di-methyl-phenol and 2-nitro-benzene-sulfonyl chloride. The aromatic rings attached to the SO3 group are oriented in a gauche fashion around the ester S-O bond, with a C-S-O-C torsion angle of 84.68 (11)°. The mol-ecules form centrosymmetric dimers via π-π stacking inter-actions between 3,5-di-methyl-phenyl groups (centroid-centroid distance = 3.709 Å). An inter-molecular S=O⋯N inter-action between the sulfonyl and nitro groups, with an O⋯N distance of 2.9840 (18) Å, organizes the dimers into columns extending along [011]. These columns are further assembled into (111) layers through C-H⋯O inter-actions.

This achiral mol-ecule crystallizes in the chiral space group P21 with inter-molecular O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding and C-H⋯π and C=O⋯π inter-actions stabilizing the crystal packing.

The mol-ecular structure is stabilized by weak intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The sulfonyl S atom has a distorted tetra-hedral configuration. In the crystal, there are no significant inter-molecular inter-actions present.
