Crystal structure of cis-aqua-bis-(2,2'-bi-pyridine-κ(2) N,N')chlorido-chromium(III) tetra-chlorido-zincate determined from synchrotron data.

ABSTRACT: The structure of the title salt, [CrCl(C10H8N2)2(H2O)][ZnCl4], has been determined from synchrotron data. The Cr(III) ion is coordinated by four N atoms from two 2,2'-bi-pyridine (bipy) ligands, one O atom from a water mol-ecule and a chloride anion in a cis arrangement, displaying a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The tetra-hedral [ZnCl4](2-) anion is slightly distorted owing to its involvement in O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding with the coordinating water mol-ecule. The Cr-N(bipy) bond lengths are in the range 2.0485 (13)-2.0632 (12) Å, while the Cr-Cl and Cr-(OH2) bond lengths are 2.2732 (6) and 1.9876 (12) Å, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are stacked along the a axis.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [CrCl(C12H8N2)2(H2O)][ZnCl4]·H2O, has been determined from synchrotron data. The Cr(III) ion is bonded to four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands, one water mol-ecule and a Cl atom in a cis arrangement, displaying an overall distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. The Cr-N(phen) bond lengths are in the range of 2.0495 (18) to 2.0831 (18) Å, while the Cr-Cl and Cr-(OH2) bond lengths are 2.2734 (7) and 1.9986 (17) Å, respectively. The tetra-hedral [ZnCl4](2-) anion is slightly distorted owing to its involvement in O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding with coordinating and non-coordinating water mol-ecules. The two types of water mol-ecules also inter-act through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The observed hydrogen-bonding pattern leads to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title salt, (C10H10N2)[ZnCl4], the bi-pyridine-diium dication is not planar, with a dihedral angle of 37.21 (9)° between the planes of the two pyridine rings. In the crystal, the slightly distorted [ZnCl4](2-) anions are packed into rods parallel to [001], with the organic cations arranged in corrugated layers parallel to (100). Cations and anions are linked through N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming chains parallel to [20-1]. Additional C-H⋯Cl inter-actions consolidate the crystal packing.

In the complex cation, the Cr(III) ion is bound by four N atoms from the tetra-dentate cycb ligand, a chloride ion and one water mol-ecule in a cis arrangement, displaying a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The distorted tetra-hedral [ZnCl4](2-) anion and three additional water mol-ecules remain outside the coordination sphere. The Cr-N(cycb) bond lengths are in the range of 2.0837 (14) to 2.1399 (12) Å while the Cr-Cl and Cr-(OH2) bond lengths are 2.2940 (8) and 2.0082 (13) Å, respectively. The crystal packing is stabilized by hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the N-H groups of the macrocyclic ligand, the O-H groups of the water mol-ecules and the Cl atoms of the tetra-chlorido-zincate anion, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the asymmetric unit of the title compound, [CrF2(C5H5N)4][ZnCl3(C5H5N)]·H2O, there are two independent complex cations, one tri-chlorido-(pyridine-κN)zincate anion and one solvent water mol-ecule. The cations lie on inversion centers. The Cr(III) ions are coordinated by four pyridine (py) N atoms in the equatorial plane and two F atoms in a trans axial arrangement, displaying a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Cr-N(py) bond lengths are in the range 2.0873 (14) to 2.0926 (17) Å while the Cr-F bond lengths are 1.8609 (10) and 1.8645 (10) Å. The [ZnCl3(C5H5N)](-) anion has a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The Cl atoms of the anion were refined as disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.631 (9):0.369 (9) ratio. In the crystal, two anions and two water mol-ecules are linked via O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming centrosymmetric aggregates. In addition, weak C-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯π and π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.712 (2) and 3.780 (2)Å] link the components of the structure into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title salt, Na[CrF2(C5H5N)4]2[ZnCl4]ClO4, consists of two cationic Cr(III) complexes, an Na(+) cation, one [ZnCl4](2-) anion and one ClO4 (-) anion. The Cr(III) atoms are coordinated by four pyridine (py) N atoms and two F atoms in a trans arrangement, displaying a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The mean Cr-N(py) and Cr-F bond lengths are 2.086 (8) and 1.864 (14) Å, respectively. The [ZnCl4](2-) anion has a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The most notable feature of the crystal packing is the formation of weak pyridine-perchlorate C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, resulting in supra-molecular chains along the b-axis direction. The perchlorate anion was disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.868 (3):0.132 (3) ratio.

Project description:The title compound, [CuCl2(C12H12N2)] n , was obtained via a DMSO-mediated dehydration of Cu(4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bi-pyridine)-copper(II)·0.25H2O. The central Cu(II) atom is coordinated in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry by two N atoms of a chelating 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bi-pyridine ligand [average Cu-N = 2.03 (3) Å] and three Cl atoms, one terminal with a short Cu-Cl bond of 2.2506 (10) Å, and two symmetry-equivalent and bridging bonds. The bridging Cl atom links the Cu(II) ions into chains parallel to [001] via one medium and one long Cu-Cl bond [2.3320 (10) and 2.5623 (9) Å]. The structure displays both inter- and intra-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding.

Project description:In the title monomeric manganese(II) complex, [Mn(CH3COO)2(C10H8N2)(H2O)2], the metal ion is coordinated by a bidentate 2,2'-bi-pyridine (bpy) ligand, two water mol-ecules and two axial acetate anions, resulting in a highly distorted octa-hedral environment. The aqua ligands are stabilized by the formation of strong intra-molecular hydrogen bonds with the uncoordinated acetate O atoms, giving rise to pseudo-bridging arrangement of the terminal acetate groups. In the crystal, the mol-ecules form [010] zigzag chains via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the aqua ligands and acetate O atoms. Further, the water and bpy ligands are trans to each other, and are arranged in an off-set fashion showing inter-molecular π-π stacking between nearly parallel bi-py rings, the centroid-centroid separations being 3.8147 (12) and 3.9305 (13) Å.

The Cr(III) ion is coordinated by six N atoms of three chelating chxn ligands, displaying a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. The distorted tetra-hedral [ZnCl4](2-) anion, the isolated Cl(-) anion and three lattice water mol-ecules remain outside the coordination sphere. The Cr-N(chxn) bond lengths are in a narrow range between 2.0737 (12) and 2.0928 (12) Å; the mean N-Cr-N bite angle is 82.1 (4)°. The crystal packing is stabilized by hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the amino groups of the chxn ligands and the water mol-ecules as donor groups, and O atoms of the water mol-ecules, chloride anions and Cl atoms of the [ZnCl4](2-) anions as acceptor groups, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional network. The [ZnCl4](2-) anion is disordered over two sets of sites with an occupancy ratio of 0.94:0.06.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex salt, [Cr(C10H24N4)(NH3)2][ZnCl4]Cl·H2O, is comprised of four halves of the Cr(III) complex cations (the counterparts being generated by application of inversion symmetry), two tetra-chlorido-zincate anions, two chloride anions and two water mol-ecules. Each Cr(III) ion is coordinated by the four N atoms of the cyclam (1,4,8,11-tetra-aza-cyclo-tetra-deca-ne) ligand in the equatorial plane and by two N atoms of ammine ligands in axial positions, displaying an overall distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. The Cr-N(cyclam) bond lengths range from 2.0501 (15) to 2.0615 (15) Å, while the Cr-(NH3) bond lengths range from 2.0976 (13) to 2.1062 (13) Å. The macrocyclic cyclam moieties adopt the trans-III conformation with six- and five-membered chelate rings in chair and gauche conformations. The [ZnCl4](2-) anions have a slightly distorted tetra-hedral shape. In the crystal, the Cl(-) anions link the complex cations, as well as the solvent water mol-ecules, through N-H⋯Cl and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. The supra-molecular set-up also includes N-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯Cl, N-H⋯O and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding between N-H or C-H groups of cyclam, ammine N-H and water O-H donor groups, and O atoms of the water mol-ecules, Cl(-) anions or Cl atoms of the [ZnCl4](2-) anions as acceptors, leading to a three-dimensional network structure.
