Naive human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) can be derived from primed hESCs or directly from blastocysts, but their X chromosome state has remained unresolved. Here, we show that the inactive X chromosome (X<sub>i</sub>) of primed hESCs was reactivated in naive culture conditions.
