<i>Background</i>. The NOTCH pathway is known to be important in the pathogenesis of calcific aortic valve disease, possibly through regulators of osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor <i>κ</i>B (RANK), and its ligand (RANKL) system.
