Crystal structure of catena-poly[silver(I)-?-l-valinato-?2N:O].

ABSTRACT: The reaction of Ag2O with l-valine (l-Hval, C5H11NO2) in a 1:2 molar ratio in water, followed by vapour diffusion, afforded a coordination polymer of the title compound, [Ag(C5H10NO2)] n , with N-Ag-O repeat units, which is classified as a type III silver(I) complex with amino acid ligands. The asymmetric unit consists of two independent units of [Ag(l-val)]. In the crystal, the polymeric chains run along [101], and neighbouring chains are linked via a weak Ag?Ag inter-action and N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The title complex exhibited anti-microbial activity against selected bacteria (Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcous aureus and Psedomonas aeruginosa).
