Permanent Draft Genome Sequences of Three Frankia sp. Strains That Are Atypical, Noninfective, Ineffective Isolates.

ABSTRACT: Here, we present draft genome sequences for three atypical Frankia strains (lineage 4) that were isolated from root nodules but are unable to reinfect actinorhizal plants. The genome sizes of Frankia sp. strains EUN1h, BMG5.36, and NRRL B16386 were 9.91, 11.20, and 9.43 Mbp, respectively.

Here, we report the 5.26-, 5.33- and 5.20-Mbp draft genome sequences of Frankia sp. strains CgS1, CcI156 and CgMI4, respectively. Analysis of the genome revealed the presence of high numbers of secondary metabolic biosynthetic gene clusters.

Project description:Actinobacteria from genus Frankia are able to form symbiotic associations with actinorhizal plants including alders. Among them, Sp+ strains are characterized by their ability to differentiate numerous sporangia inside host plant cells (unlike "Sp-" strains unable of in-planta sporulation). Here, we report the first genome sequences of three unisolated Sp+ strains: AgTrS, AiOr and AvVan obtained from Alnus glutinosa, A. incana and A. alnobetula (previously known as viridis), respectively (with genome completeness estimated at more than 98%). They represent new Frankia species based on Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI) calculations, and the smallest Alnus-infective Frankia genomes so far sequenced (~5 Mbp), with 5,178, 6,192 and 5,751 candidate protein-encoding genes for AgTrS, AiOr and AvVan, respectively.

Project description:The enterococci are low-GC Gram-positive bacteria that have emerged as leading causes of hospital-acquired infection. They are also commensals of the gastrointestinal tract of healthy humans and most other animals with gastrointestinal flora and are important for food fermentations. Here we report the availability of draft genome sequences for 28 enterococcal strains of diverse origin, including the species Enterococcus faecalis, E. faecium, E. casseliflavus, and E. gallinarum.

Project description:Ensifer (syn. Sinorhizobium) meliloti is an important symbiotic bacterial species that fixes nitrogen. Strains BO21CC and AK58 were previously investigated for their substrate utilization and their plant-growth promoting abilities showing interesting features. Here, we describe the complete genome sequence and annotation of these strains. BO21CC and AK58 genomes are 6,985,065 and 6,974,333 bp long with 6,746 and 6,992 genes predicted, respectively.

Draft genomes of non-nitrogen-fixing Frankia strains.

Project description:In this study, we describe the genomes of two novel candidate species of non-nitrogen fixing Frankia that were isolated from the root nodules of Coriaria nepalensis and Alnus glutinosa, genospecies CN and Ag, respectively. Comparative genomic analyses revealed that both genospecies lack genes essential for nitrogen-fixation and possess genes involved in the degradation of plant cell walls. Additionally, we found distinct biosynthetic gene clusters in each genospecies. The availability of these genomes will contribute to the study of the taxonomy and evolution of actinorhizal symbioses.

Draft Genome Sequences of Pseudomonas sp. Strains Isolated from Wheat in Germany.

Project description:Three chloramphenicol-resistant Pseudomonas sp. strains were isolated from wheat grain in Germany on rose Bengal agar. The draft genome sizes ranged from 5,924,931 to 6,124,470 bp. All the isolates possessed genes for efflux pumps that might be responsible for an intrinsic chloramphenicol resistance. No acquired antibiotic resistance genes in these strains could be determined.

Project description:The genus Saccharibacter is currently understudied, with only one described species, Saccharibacter floricola, isolated from a flower. In an effort to better understand the microbes that come in contact with native bee pollinators, we isolated and sequenced four additional strains of Saccharibacter from native bees in the genera Melissodes and Anthophora These genomes range in size from 2,104,494 to 2,316,791 bp (mean, 2,246,664 bp) and contain between 1,860 and 2,167 (mean, 2,060) protein-coding genes.
