Actinobacteria from genus <i>Frankia</i> are able to form symbiotic associations with actinorhizal plants including alders. Among them, Sp+ strains are characterized by their ability to differentiate numerous sporangia inside host plant cells (unlike "Sp-" strains unable of <i>in-planta</i> sporulation).
