Previous studies indicated that genome rearrangement involving DNA sequence elimination that occurs at late stages of conjugation in Tetrahymena is epigenetically controlled by siRNA-like scan (scn) RNAs produced from nongenic, heterogeneous, bidirectional, micronuclear transcripts synthesized at early stages of conjugation.
