DNA methylation is a key epigenetic modification which confers phenotypic plasticity and adaptation. Cyst-forming strains of <i>Toxoplasma gondii</i> undergo tachyzoite to bradyzoite conversion after initial acute infection of a host, and the reverse conversion may occur in immune-suppressed hosts.
