Centrosome number is associated with the chromosome segregation and genomic stability. The ubiquitin-proteasome system is considered to be the main regulator of centrosome number. However, here we show that autophagy also regulates the number of centrosomes. Autophagy-deficient cells carry extra centrosomes.
