Mycolactone, a polyketide molecule produced by <i>Mycobacterium ulcerans</i>, is the etiological agent of Buruli ulcer. This lipid toxin is endowed with pleiotropic effects, presents cytotoxic effects at high doses, and notably plays a pivotal role in host response upon colonization by the bacillus.
