High dietary sodium intake triggers increased blood pressure (BP). Animal studies show that dietary salt loading results in dermal Na<sup>+</sup> accumulation and lymphangiogenesis mediated by VEGF-C (vascular endothelial growth factor C), both attenuating the rise in BP.
