Massive parallel sequencing (MPS) can accurately quantify mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) single nucleotide variants (SNVs), but no MPS methods are currently validated to simultaneously and accurately establish the breakpoints and frequency of large deletions at low heteroplasmic loads.
