The recent adaptation of CRISPR Cas9 genome editing to <i>Leishmania</i> spp. has opened a new era in deciphering <i>Leishmania</i> biology. The method was recently improved using a PCR-based CRISPR Cas9 approach, which eliminated the need for cloning.
