Understanding the conducting mechanisms of dielectric materials under various conditions is of increasing importance. Here, we report the dielectric breakdown (DB) and post-breakdown mechanism of Si/SiO<sub>2</sub>, a widely used semiconductor and dielectric, in an acidic aqueous electrochemical environment.
