Two new species of Trivalvaria (Annonaceae) from northern Myanmar.

ABSTRACT: Trivalvaria rubra and Trivalvaria casseabriae, two new species of Annonaceae from Putao, Kachin State, Myanmar, are here described and illustrated. They are morphologically similar to T. costata and T. macrophylla. The major differences between them are outlined and discussed. A diagnostic key to the species of Trivalvaria is provided.

Two new species and two new records of Artabotrys (Annonaceae) from Thailand.

Project description:Two new species of Artabotrys are described from Thailand. Artabotrys tanaosriensis J.Chen, Chalermglin & R.M.K.Saunders, sp. nov., is similar to A. oblanceolatus Craib but differs in its symmetrical, cuneate or decurrent leaf base, externally distinct outer petal blades and claws, deltoid and undulate outer petal blades, rhomboid and undulate inner petal blades and shorter, subsessile and slightly beaked monocarps. Artabotrys spathulatus J.Chen, Chalermglin & R.M.K.Saunders, sp. nov., is most similar to A. tanaosriensis but differs in having flat outer petal blades, broadly rhomboid outer petal claws, broadly spathulate and strongly concave inner petal blades and strongly beaked monocarps. Two new records for the Flora of Thailand are furthermore reported here: A. punctulatus C.Y.Wu ex S.H.Yuan and A. byrsophyllus I.M.Turner & Utteridge, which were previously confused with A. aeneus Ast and A. grandifolius King, respectively. Coelogyne magnifica (Orchidaceae), a new species from northern Myanmar.

Project description:Coelogyne magnifica (Orchidaceae), a new species from Putao, Kachin State, Myanmar, is described and illustrated. It belongs to Coelogyne section Ocellatae Pfitzer & Kraenzl. and it is morphologically similar to Coelogyne corymbosa and C. taronensis, but can be distinguished from these species by its larger flowers, lanceolate sepals and petals, a narrowly ovate lip, which has two bright yellow patches surrounded by shiny brownish red and two fimbriate or erose-lacerate lateral keels on the lip. The major differences between these species are outlined and discussed.

A new species and two new records of Goniothalamus (Annonaceae) from Lao PDR.

Project description:Goniothalamus saccopetaloides Y.H. Tan & Bin Yang, a new species is described and illustrated from Laos. This species shows morphological similarities to G. yunnanensis W.T. Wang, but it differs from the latter by having almost fleshy, involute and saccate outer petals, subglobose monocarps, and single seeded monocarps. Goniothalamus cheliensis, and G. calvicarpus are new records for the Flora of Lao PDR. A key to Goniothalamus species indigenous to Laos is provided here.

Project description:We describe Selliguea kachinensis as a new species from Northern Myanmar and discuss its generic placement in either Selliguea or Arthromeris. The conservation status is assessed as Data Deficient. In addition, we make the new combination Selliguea erythrocarpa (Mett. ex Kuhn) Hovenkamp, S. Linds., Fraser-Jenk.

Two new species of Gingers (Zingiberaceae) from Myanmar.

Project description:Two new species of gingers (Zingiberaceae), Globba sherwoodiana W.J. Kress & V. Gowda sp. nov., and Curcuma arracanensis W.J. Kress & V. Gowda sp. nov., from Myanmar are described. The new species of Globba is currently only known in cultivation and is commonly grown and sold in markets in Myanmar. In contrast Curcuma arracanensis has been collected from a single restricted region in the cloud forests of the Rakhine Yoma above the Bay of Bengal in western Myanmar. Three-locus DNA barcodes were generated as aids for the identification of the two new species.

Project description:Alseodaphnopsis maguanensis and A. putaoensis, two new species of Alseodaphnopsis (Lauraceae) from southwestern China (Yunnan Province) and northern Myanmar (Kachin State), are here described and illustrated based on both morphological and molecular evidence. They are morphologically similar to Alseodaphnopsis rugosa and phylogenetically closely related to A. rugosa and A. hainanensis respectively. Their preliminary conservation status is also estimated according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Hedychium putaoense (Zingiberaceae), a new species from Putao, Kachin State, Northern Myanmar.

Project description:Hedychium putaoense Y.H. Tan & H.B. Ding, a new species of Zingiberaceae from Putao, Kachin state, Northern Myanmar, is described and illustrated. It is similar to H. densiflorum Wall. and H. longipedunculatum A.R.K. Sastry & D.M. Verma, but differs by its very small bract (4-6 × 2.5-3 mm vs. 18-19 × 5-5.5 mm and ca. 11 × 7 mm, respectively), semicircle and dark red bracteole, orange flower and broadly falcate to lanceolate lateral staminodes.

A new species of Amolops (Anura: Ranidae) from northern Myanmar.

Project description:A new species of the genus Amolops, Amolops putaoensis sp. nov., is described from northern Myanmar. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: (1) dorsolateral fold distinct; (2) upper-lip stripe white; (3) male body size 37.6-40.2 mm; (4) ground color of dorsal surface brown, flank green, small warts on dorsum; (5) two internal subgular vocal sacs present; (6) HL slightly shorter than HW; (7) two palmar tubercles present, supernumerary tubercles and outer metatarsal tubercle absent; (8) tympanum smaller than half of eye diameter; (9) vomerine teeth present; (10) tibiotarsal articulation reaching beyond snout tip; (11) supratympanic fold indistinct; (12) pineal body present; (13) finger webbing absent, presence of circummarginal groove on tip of first finger; (14) nuptial pads present. The population from Myanmar represented a distinct maternal lineage within the Amolops monticola group and was recovered as a sister taxon to Amolops aniqiaoensis with strong support (100) based on concatenated data. Average uncorrected pairwise distances ( P-distances) between the specimens from Myanmar and other species in the genus ranged from 2.69% (vs. A. aniqiaoensis) to 12.24% (vs. A. indoburmanensis) for 16S rRNA, 6.14% (vs. A. aniqiaoensis) to 15.79% (vs. A. panhai) for COI, and 9.66% (vs. A. aniqiaoensis) to 19.52% (vs. A. afghanus) for ND2.

Goniothalamusroseipetalus and G.sukhirinensis (Annonaceae): Two new species from Peninsular Thailand.

Project description:Two new Goniothalamus species (Annonaceae), G.roseipetalus sp. nov. and G.sukhirinensis sp. nov., are described from the southern limits of Peninsular Thailand (Narathiwat and Yala Provinces). Both new species resemble G.macrophyllus, G.scortechinii and G.uvarioides. The addition of these two new species brings the total number of Goniothalamus species in Thailand to 27. Separate identification keys are provided for flowering and fruiting specimens of the Thai species.
