First record of Arthromelodes Jeannel in China, with description of a new species (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Pselaphinae).

ABSTRACT: A new species of Arthromelodes Jeannel, A. chouisp. n., is described from northern Taitung, Taiwan, representing the first record of the genus in China. The species is distinctive, and may be readily separated from its congeners by the unique structures of male tergite 1(IV), and the aedeagus.

Project description:Physomerinusjiulongensissp. nov. is described from a series of overwintering individuals collected in decomposing wood at Jiulong National Wetland Park, East China. The new species is characterized and separated from related congeners by the unique form of the sexually dimorphic maxillary palpi, greatly swollen male metafemora, as well as by the shape of the genitalia of both sexes. A key to, and a distributional map of, Physomerinus species occurring in China and on the Ryukyu Islands, Japan is provided.

Project description:Eight new species of the genus Batrisodes Reitter are described from continental China, seven of which were found in association with ants: B. abdominalissp. n. and B. tianmuensissp. n. with an Ectomomyrmex ant from Zhejiang; B. grossussp. n. with an Odontomachus ant from Guangxi; B. simianshanussp. n. with an Aphaenogaster ant from Chongqing; B. qiuluisp. n. with a Pheidole ant, B. xuhaoisp. n. with a Lasius ant, and B. zhouchaoisp. n. with Lasius and Nylanderia ants from Sichuan. Batrisodes zethussp. n. was collected from a leaf litter sample.

Project description:The genus Batriscenellus Jeannel, 1958 (type species: Batrisus fragilis Sharp) includes 35 species and is known from South Korea, China, Japan, Russia, and India. Three species, B. vicarius, B. auritus, and B. orientalis have been documented from the Korean Peninsula. One additional species, Batriscenellus koreanus sp. nov., is described as new. Redescriptions of the Korean species, a species key, illustration of habitus, and diagnostic characters are provided.

Project description:Six new species of the genus Linan Hlavá? are described from central to southern China: L.arcitibialis sp. n. (Hubei), L.denticulatus sp. n. (Guizhou), L.divaricatus sp. n. (Jiangxi), L.geneolatus sp. n. (Guizhou), L.mangshanus sp. n. (Hunan), and L.mulunensis sp. n. (Guangxi), with illustrations of habitus and major diagnostic characters. Linanmegalobus Yin & Li, originally described from Guizhou, is newly recorded in Hubei. An updated key to and a distributional map of all 16 known species are provided.

The species can be readily recognized and separated from all congeners based on the forms of the male antennae, the metaventral processes, and the aedeagus.

Project description:A new distinctive species of the rare Oriental goniacerine genus Awas Löbl, Awas gigas sp. n., is described and illustrated, based on three males and fourteen females taken at the Daoyao Shan Natural Reserve in the southern Chinese province of Guangxi. All specimens were collected from colonies of the ant genus Pachycondyla F. Smith nesting in decomposing woods.
