Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is enriched in photoreceptor cell membranes. DHA deficiency impairs vision due to photoreceptor cell dysfunction, which is caused, at least in part, by reduced activity of rhodopsin, the light receptor that initiates phototransduction.
