Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) lie at the heart of modern regenerative medicine due to their properties of unlimited self-renewal <i>in vitro</i> and their ability to differentiate into cell types representative of the three embryonic germ layers-mesoderm, ectoderm and endoderm.
