The relaxation activity of <i>E. coli</i> topoisomerase I is required for regulation of global and local DNA supercoiling. The in vivo topoisomerase I enzyme activity is sensitive to lysine acetylation⁻deacetylation and can affect DNA supercoiling and growth as a result.
