Dataset on ethical leadership and corporate reputation - Nigerian deposit money banks׳ perspective.

ABSTRACT: Banking institutions play a critical role in any economy, and their stability is crucial to the economic development of a nation. The wave of corporate scandals that rocked the industry left the public with a loss of confidence. Efforts have since been channeled by banks towards developing their corporate governance mechanisms, except that the aspect of ethical leadership and how it translates to a bank׳s corporate reputation has not received sufficient attention. The dataset presented the perception of employees in selected deposit money banks in Nigeria. A multistage sampling technique was used to elicit data from the employees. Inferential statistics such as correlation, and regression analysis were adopted. The data collected focused on the impact of ethical leadership on corporate reputation. It also provided information on the significant factors affecting ethical leadership as well as the measures of corporate reputation. The survey data when analysed can be a pointer in determining the unique ethical leadership predictors that could enhance a bank׳s reputation.

Project description:This study presents a data-set on the influence of managerial incentives on bank performance in selected Deposit Money Banks (DMB) in Nigeria. The use of managerial incentives to align interests of the principal and agent is advocated by agency theorists, but the peculiarity of the banking industry in terms of the role of regulation, capital structure, opacity and complexity of its transactions among others presents a different proposition in corporate governance research. The data collected over a longitudinal period between 2006 and 2016, provide information on specific managerial incentives and financial performance measures. Descriptive and inferential statistics such as correlation, and panel regression analysis estimates are presented. When analysed, the data can be a pointer in determining the unique managerial incentives predictors that could enhance a bank׳s performance.

Project description:This article provides data on the impact of board meeting frequency and financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. We obtained the dataset from Nigeria stock exchange (NSE) database. The time frame used for this work is 2010-2016. TOBIN Q was used as a major determinant of financial performance. The raw data is easily accessible on Nigeria stock exchange website. We describe the value of this data as well as the method to analyze the data.

Association between ethical leadership, ethical climate and organizational citizenship behavior from nurses' perspective: a descriptive correlational study.

Project description:Background:Ethical leadership plays an important role in improving the organizational climate and may be have an effect on citizenship behavior. Despite the growing emphasis on ethics in organizations, little attention to has been given this issue. The purpose of this study was to identify ethical leadership, an ethical climate, and their relationship with organizational citizenship behavior from nurses' perspective. Methods:In this descriptive correlational study, 250 nurses in twelve teaching hospitals in Tehran were selected by multistage sampling during 2016-2017. The data were collected using Ethical Leadership Questionnaire, Hospital Ethical Climate Survey, and Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale. Results:The findings showed a significant correlation between ethical leadership in managers, organizational citizenship behavior (P?=?0.04, r?=?0.09) and an ethical climate (P?<?0.001, r?=?0.65). There was a significant correlation between an ethical climate and nurses' organizational citizenship behavior (P?<?0.001, r?=?0.61). The regression analysis showed that ethical leadership and an ethical climate is a predictor of organizational citizenship behavior and confirms the relationship between the variables. Conclusion:Applying an ethical leadership style and creating the necessary conditions for a proper ethical climate in hospitals lead to increased organizational citizenship behavior by staff. To achieve organizational goals, nurse managers can use these concepts to enhance nurses' satisfaction and improve their performance.

The interdependence of corporate reputation and ownership: a network approach to quantify reputation.

Project description:We propose a novel way to measure the reputation of firms by using information about their ownership structure. Supported by the signalling theory, we argue that ownership relations channel reputation spillovers between shareholders and their invested companies. We model such reputation spillovers by means of a simple dynamics that runs on the ownership network, constructed from available databases. We focus on the core of the global ownership network with 1300 firms and 12 100 ownership links. Our method assigns an ownership-based reputation value to each firm, used to provide a quantitative reputation ranking. We compare our ranking with alternative rankings, to confirm that the top-ranked firms are correctly identified. We also demonstrate that our reputation measure does not correlate substantially with operating revenue or control and thus provides additional information about firms.

Corporate social responsibility and corporate financialization-Based on information effect and reputation insurance effect.

Project description:China has witnessed the trend of corporate financialization (CF) with some potential risks as the economy slows down its pace in the past decade. In this paper, we explore whether corporate social responsibility (CSR) could work as an information channel to restrain CF or as reputation insurance to promote CF. We find a significant positive relation between CSR and CF, especially for non-SOEs and enterprises with low ownership concentration and high CSR scores. It verifies that the reputation insurance effect by CSR outweighs the information effect and denies the opposite. The results prove robust in tests including sensitivity and endogeneity test. By expanding the scale and adding new aspects to the discussion about how CSR affects CF, this paper provides valuable empirical support to both theorists and practitioners.

Survey dataset on leadership styles and job satisfaction: The Perspective of employees of hospitality providers.

Project description:This study aimed at establishing the relationship between the dimensions of leadership styles and employees' job satisfaction in hospitality industry in Nigeria. This study was prompted by reports of high labour turnover in this sector of the economy (especially in the guesthouses), because of reduction in the satisfaction of the workforce. Cross-sectional research design which is quantitative in nature, was the methodology adopted for this study to assess the trends of relationships between the constructs. Questionnaire was used as the measuring instrument, and reliability and validity test for the instrument were established using cronbach alpha, for all the variables ranging between 71% and 89%. The study population comprises 410 employees in the six selected functioning guesthouses, which also represents the study sample. Total enumeration sampling technique was adopted. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software package (version 22) was used for the analysis of the data. The field dataset is available to the public for more rigorous, extensive, critical and extended analysis.

Corporate governance practices, barriers and drivers: A survey dataset.

Project description:The dataset presented in this paper is used to examine the corporate governance (CG) practices and compute the CG index among Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) listed firms. Dataset is useful in exploring the different barriers to and drivers of good CG practices. The survey questionnaire was distributed to 350 respondents from 350 PSX listed firms, nevertheless, 120 respondents returned the questionnaire. After reviewing the filled questionnaires, fifteen questionnaires were found to be incomplete. Therefore, the final sample consisted of 105 respondents from 105 PSX listed firms. The survey dataset was analysed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and hierarchical multiple linear regression. SPSS 24 was used to analyse the data. For further findings and interpretation, please refer to the research article entitled "Corporate Governance in Extreme Institutional Environment: Evidence From Emerging Economy" [1]. We also suggest referring to another article that was used to develop the survey questionnaire [2].

Project description:This data article provides cross-sectionals on the local values of the coefficients of ROE, R&D-TO-SALES, and TOTAL ASSET as regressors of the MARKET-TO-BOOK ratio and is related to the research article entitled "Do Local Causations Matter? The Effect of Firm Location on the Relations of ROE, R&D, and Firm Size with Market-to-Book" (A. Carosi, 2016) [1]. The data are aggregated at the regional level (NUTS2). The reported data are the regional average values of the coefficients of ROE, R&D-TO-SALES, and LN(TOTAL ASSET) on LN(MARKET-TO-BOOK), estimated upon the Italian non-financial listed firms in 1999-2007. Local coefficient estimates for family firms and utilities are also provided.

Don't cry over spilt milk: a review on consumer-based corporate reputation in private ophthalmology services.

Project description:A growing interest has been identified in defining and measuring corporate reputation in both business and academia. Monitoring and managing the intangible assets of an organization is an important matter and the most investigated intangible asset is reputation. In healthcare services, and implicitly, in ophthalmology services, corporate reputation has generated many controversial debates, due to their characteristics such as intangibility, variability, perishability, and inseparability. Reputation can be defined as a synthesis of opinions, perceptions, and attitudes of an organization's stakeholders. In ophthalmology services, corporate management experts are more aware of the importance of corporate reputation and its implications on an organization's performance. Consumers of private ophthalmology services are the primarily generators of revenues and they place great value on their health and minimize the perceived risks of the services by trusting a healthcare organization's reputation. Consequently, ophthalmology services have been characterized by high-involvement and emotional vulnerability. Hence, consumer-based reputation in the context of private ophthalmology services encompasses affective responses, cognitive responses, the past experiences of consumers as well as their behavioral intentions. However, consumer-based corporate reputation is the sum of the existing consumer's perceived reputation and the potential consumer's perceived reputation. In ophthalmology services, corporate reputation experts recommend building a reputation focused on experiential sustainability, which is very difficult to achieve as it implies responsibility, frugality and sacrifice.

Comprehensive dataset for corporate governance in Oman: Data for a three-level quality assessment of corporate governance.

Project description:This article describes a dataset on firm-level corporate governance (CG) mechanisms in the Sultanate of Oman. It incorporates, in cross-sectional time series (pooled panel) data, eleven variables: corporate governance quality, board of directors' quality, audit committee quality, board independence, board expertise, board size, board meetings, audit committee independence, audit committee expertise, audit committee size, and audit committee meetings. The dataset is derived from 1540 firm-year observations for the period 2005 to 2017, excluding financial firms (482) and firms with missing data (29), resulting in a final sample of 1029 firm-year observations. The data were extracted from six sources: OSIRIS database, CG reports, Google, firm's website, directors' websites, and Bloomberg. Scholarly researchers can readily use this dataset as two data types were created to allow individual and composite measurements of corporate governance mechanisms. The individual determinants are: board independence, board expertise, board size, board meetings, audit committee independence, audit committee expertise, audit committee size, and audit committee meetings. The composite measurements are: corporate governance quality, board of directors' quality, and audit committee quality. This dataset could be used for investigating corporate governance mechanisms in different business and market issues.
