Crystal structure of a heterometallic coordination polymer: catena-poly[[[tetra-aqua-cobalt(II)]-μ-pyridine-2,6-di-carboxyl-ato-calcium(II)-μ-pyridine-2,6-di-carboxyl-ato] dihydrate].

ABSTRACT: In the crystal of the title polymeric complex, {[CoCa(C₇H₃NO₄)₂(H₂O)₄]·2H₂O} _n (1), the Co^II ion is N,O,O'-chelated by two pyridine-2,6-di-carboxyl-ate anions in a distorted N₂O₄ octa-hedral geometry, and two carboxyl-ate O atoms of pyridine-2,6-di-carboxyl-ate anions bridge tetra-aqua-calcium(II) units to form polymeric chains propagating along the b-axis direction. In the crystal, O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, and offset π-π stacking inter-actions [inter-centroid distances = 3.551 (1) and 3.746 (1) Å] involving inversion-related pyridine rings link the polymeric chains and lattice water mol-ecules to form a supra-molecular three-dimensional framework.

All interatomic distances and angles and the hydrogen-bond geometries are very similar for the two structures. The refined Flack parameter of 0.49 (2) suggests inversion twinning.

The Tb(III) atom is octa-coordinated by two water mol-ecules and by four carboxyl-ate O atoms and two pyridyl N atoms from two pyridine-2,5-dicarboxyl-ate (2,5-pydc) and two 6-carboxy-nicotinate (2,5-Hpydc) ligands. The 2,5-pydc and 2,5-Hpydc ligands bridge Tb(III) atoms, generating helical coordination polymers along [001]. An extensive network of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds is formed between the coordination polymers and the uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The refined Flack parameter of 0.54 (2) suggests inversion twinning.

The 1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane ligands link the Co(II) atoms into an infinite zigzag chain parallel to [010]. The chains are further linked through O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:In the polymeric title complex, {[Mn(C(8)H(4)O(4))(C(7)H(6)N(2))(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O}(n), the Mn(II) cation is coordinated by two benzene-dicarboxyl-ate anions, one benzimidazole ligand and two water mol-ecules in a distorted MnNO(5) octa-hedral geometry. In the crystal, each benzene-dicarboxyl-ate anion bridges adjacent Mn(II) cations through the terminal carboxyl-ate groups, forming a polymeric complex chain along the a axis. One Mn-O(carboxyl-ate) bond is much longer than the others. In the crystal, π-π stacking is observed between nearly parallel [dihedral angle = 4.32 (6)°] benzimidazole aromatic ring systems of adjacent mol-ecules, the centroid-centroid distance between the imidazole and benzene rings being 3.5421 (11) Å. Extensive inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure. The two lattice water mol-ecules are located on twofold rotation axes.

Project description:There are two independent La(III) cations in the polymeric title compound, {[La(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(3)(H(2)O)(4)]·2H(2)O}(n). One is nine-coordinated in an LaN(2)O(7) tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry formed by three pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two water mol-ecules, while the other is ten-coordinated in an LaNO(9) bicapped square-anti-prismatic geometry formed by four pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two water mol-ecules. The two La(III) cations are separated by a non-bonding distance of 5.026 (3) Å. The pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate anions bridge the La(III) cations, forming a three-dimensional polymeric complex. The crystal structure contains extensive classical O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The crystal structure is further consolidated by π-π stacking between pyridine rings, the shortest centroid-centroid distance between parallel pyridine rings being 3.700 (5) Å.

Each Ni(II) ion has a distorted square-pyramidal environment, with the basal plane formed by three O [Ni-O = 1.9290 (16)-1.9588 (10) Å] and one N [Ni-N = 1.9828 (18) Å] atoms and the apical position occupied by the water mol-ecule [Ni-O = 2.2643 (11) Å]. The water mol-ecules are involved in the formation of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Cu(2)Tb(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(3)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)]NO(3)·4H(2)O, consists of one-half of the C(2)-symmetric trinuclear coordination cation, one-half of the C(2)-symmetric nitrate anion and two water mol-ecules. In the coordination cation, the Cu(II) atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two O atoms from a bridging-chelating carboxyl-ate group of the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate anion, completing a distorted N(4)O(2) octa-hedral coordination environment. The Tb(III) atom, located on a twofold rotation axis, is nine-coordinated by three tridentate pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate anions forming an N(3)O(6) donor set. The intra-molecular Cu?Tb distance of 5.0592?(11)?Å indicates weak inter-actions between the Cu(II) and Tb(III) atoms. The coordination cations, nitrate anions and water mol-ecules are connected via O-H?O hydrogen bonds into layers parallel to the (001) plane. Moreover, there are extensive ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 4.332?(7) and 3.878?(5)?Å] between the phenanthroline ligands and between phenanthroline and pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate ligands.

Project description:The title compound, {(C(4)H(12)N(2))[Bi(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(4)(H(2)O)]·H(2)O}(n) or {(pipzH(2))[Bi(2)(pydc)(4)(H(2)O)]·H(2)O}(n), where pydcH(2) is pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid and pipz is piperazine, was obtained by reaction of Bi(NO(3))(3)·5H(2)O with (pipzH(2))(pydc-H)(2)·3H(2)O in a 1:2 molar ratio in aqueous solution. There are two independent Bi(III) atoms in the structure, one of which is eight-coordinate with a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic geometry, and another which is nine-coordinate with a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. The carboxyl-ate groups of the (pydc)(2-) ligands link dinuclear [Bi(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(4)(H(2)O)](2-) units into one-dimensional coordin-ation polymers. The pipzH(2) (2+) cations (site symmetry ) and non-coordinated water mol-ecules lie between these polymers, forming N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to the O atoms of the carboxylate groups.

Project description:The title compound, [Cd(C(8)H(4)O(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)](n), is a new coordination polymer of benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate with cadmium(II) and 1,10-phenanthroline. The Cd(II) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule, three O atoms from two crystallographically independent benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate ligands and the O atom of a coordinated water mol-ecule, forming a heavily distorted octa-hedron. The 1,10-phenanthroline ligand is approximately planar within 0.073 (4) Å. The two different benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate ligands each coordinate to two Cd(II) ions in bidentate and monodentate modes, forming an infinite zigzag chain. Adjacent chains are packed tightly by strong π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.851 (2) and 3.859 (2) Å] between the aromatic rings of the benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate ligand and the 1,10-phenanthroline of a neighboring chain, forming a sheet parallel to (011). Different sheets are linked together via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water mol-ecules and the O atoms of the carboxyl-ate groups, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title coordination polymer, [Ni(C7H3NO4)(C4H4N2)(C2H6OS)] n , consists of [010] chains composed of Ni(II) ions linked by bis-monodentate-bridging pyrazine mol-ecules. Each of the two crystallographically distinct Ni(II) ions is located on a mirror plane and is additionally coordinated by a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ligand through the oxygen atom and by a tridentate 2,6-pyridine-di-carb-oxy-lic acid dianion through one of each of the carboxyl-ate oxygen atoms and the pyridine nitro-gen atom, leading to a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. The title structure exhibits an inter-esting complementarity between coordinative bonding and π-π stacking where the Ni-Ni distance of 7.0296 (4) Å across bridging pyrazine ligands allows the pyridine moieties on two adjacent chains to inter-digitate at halfway of the Ni-Ni distance, resulting in π-π stacking between pyridine moieties with a centroid-to-plane distance of 3.5148 (2) Å. The double-chain thus formed also exhibits C-H⋯π inter-actions between pyridine C-H groups on one chain and pyrazine mol-ecules on the other chain. As a result, the inter-ior of the double-chain structure is dominated by π-π stacking and C-H⋯ π inter-actions, while the space between the double-chains is occupied by a C-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding network involving DMSO ligands and carboxyl-ate groups located on the exterior of the double-chains. This separation of dissimilar inter-actions in the inter-ior and exterior of the double-chains further stabilizes the crystal structure.
