Taxonomic study of the Pinelemabailongensis species group with descriptions of six new species from China (Araneae, Telemidae).

ABSTRACT: The Pinelemabailongensis Wang & Li, 2012 species group of the spider family Telemidae Fage, 1913 from Guangxi and Guizhou, China is revised. Previously, this species group contained two species: P.bailongensis and P.xiushuiensis Wang & Li, 2016. In this study, four species are transferred from Telema Simon, 1882 to Pinelema Wang & Li, 2012, and treated as members of the P.bailongensis species group. They are P.cordata (Wang & Li, 2010) comb. n., P.liangxi (Zhu & Chen, 2002) comb. n., P.strentarsi (Lin & Li, 2010) comb. n. and P.zhewang (Chen & Zhu, 2009) comb. n. Additionally, six new species belonging to the species group are described: P.cheni Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.huoyan Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.lizhuang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.wangshang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.wenyang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??) and P.yunchuni Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??). A key to males is provided.

Project description:Species of the spider family Leptonetidae Simon, 1890 from China are revised based on molecular and morphological data analyses. A new genus, Jingneta Wang & Li gen. nov., is erected, with Leptoneta cornea Tong & Li, 2008 as the type species. Twenty-two Chinese species previously assigned to the genus Leptoneta Simon, 1872 are revised, with eight transferred to Falcileptoneta Komatsu, 1970, seven transferred to Jingneta gen. nov., five transferred to Leptonetela Kratochvíl, 1978, and one species each transferred to Longileptoneta Seo, 2015 and Masirana Kishida, 1942. Eight new species are described: i.e., Falcileptoneta shuanglong Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂), Jingneta caoxian Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂♀), J. jingdong Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂♀), Longileptoneta gutan Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂♀), L. huangshan Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂♀), L. shenxian Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂♀), L. yeren Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂), and L. zhuxian Wang & Li sp. nov. (♂♀). In total, 127 leptonetid species from six genera are documented from China: nine species of Falcileptoneta, nine species of Jingneta gen. nov., 101 species of Leptonetela, six species of Longileptoneta, one species of Masirana, and one species of Rhyssoleptoneta Tong & Li, 2007.

Seven new species of Pinelema from Vietnam (Araneae, Telemidae).

Project description:Seven new species of the spider genus Pinelema Wang & Li, 2012, from Vietnam are reported: P. damtaoensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. nuocnutensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. laensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. pacchanensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. spirulata Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. xiezi Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), and P. zhenzhuang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??). Prior to the current study, this genus contained eight species and was known only from southwestern China. The diagnosis of the genus is updated, accounting for characters found in the new species.

Three new species of Pinelema from caves in Guangxi, China (Araneae, Telemidae).

Project description:Three new Pinelema species, P. cunfengensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), P. podiensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), and P. qingfengensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), are described from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, bringing the total number of Pinelema species to eight. All occur in Yunnan Province or the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The male palp of Telemidae was studied for the first time using scanning electron microscope.

Eight additional new species are described: Mekonglema kaorao Zhao & Li, sp. nov. (♂♀, northern Laos), M. walayaku Zhao & Li, sp. nov. (♂♀, Yunnan, China), M. yan Zhao & Li, sp. nov. Review of the Lycoceruspallidulus group (Coleoptera, Cantharidae), with descriptions of six new species from China.

Project description:The Lycoceruspallidulus subgroup, originally placed in the L.maculicollis group, is suggested as an independent species group herein and its diagnosis is redefined. Ten previously known species of Lycocerus are attributed to this group, including L.centrochinensis (Švihla, 2004), L.genaemaculatus (Wittmer, 1951), L.hubeiensis (Švihla, 2004), L.kubani (Švihla, 2004), L.zdeneki (Švihla, 2004), L.bilineatus (Wittmer, 1995), L.jelineki (Švihla, 2004), L.putzi Švihla, 2011, L.pictipennis (Wittmer, 1995), and L.curvatus (Wittmer, 1995). Additionally, six new species of this group are described from China, including L.laterophysussp. nov., L.flavipennissp. nov., L.putzimimussp. nov., L.maoershanensissp. nov., L.chongqingensissp. nov., and L.bispermathecussp. nov. These species are illustrated with photographs of habitus, aedeagi, abdominal sternites VIII, and reproductive systems of female. In addition, an identification key and a distribution map of the L.pallidulus group are provided.

A taxonomic review of Eucalantica Busck (Lepidoptera, Yponomeutidae) with descriptions of six new species.

Project description:The New World genus Eucalantica Busck, 1904 is reviewed. It comprises seven species, six of which are described as new: Eucalantica costaricae Sohn & Nishida, sp. n., Eucalantica ehecatlella Sohn & Nishida, sp. n., Eucalantica icarusella Sohn & Nishida, sp. n., Eucalantica powelli Sohn, sp. n., and Eucalantica pumila Sohn, sp. n., all five from Costa Rica; Eucalantica vaquero Sohn, sp. n. from southern USA and Mexico. The type species, Eucalantica polita (Walsingham, 1881), is redescribed and a lectotype and two paralectotypes are designated. Illustrations and keys based on the forewing patterns and the genitalia of each sex are provided. Our review suggests that there remains an undiscovered high diversity of Eucalantica in the tropical highlands of Central America.

A taxonomic study of Nemania from China, with six new species.

Project description:During an investigation of Xylariaceae from 2019 to 2020, isolates representing eight Nemania (Xylariacese) species were collected from Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan Provinces in China. Morphological and multi-gene phylogenetic analyses, based on combined ITS, α-actin, rpb2 and β-tubulin sequences, confirmed that six of them are new to science, viz. Nemaniacamelliae, N.changningensis, N.cyclobalanopsina, N.feicuiensis, N.lishuicola and N.rubi; one is a new record (N.caries) for China and one is a known species (N.diffusa). Morphological descriptions and illustrations of all species are detailed. In addition, the characteristics of Nemania are summarised and prevailing contradictions in generic concepts are discussed.

Project description:The cantharid Fissocantharis semifumata species-groupis reviewed. Fissocantharis semifumata (Fairmaire, 1889) is redescribed and illustrated. The type series of Fissocantharis fissa (Wittmer, 1997) is shown to consist of 3 species and clarified, except the holotype, the two paratypes become invalid. Fissocantharis grahami (Wittmer, 1997) is attributed to this species group. Six new species are described and illustrated, Fissocanthais yuisp. n. (CHINA: Yunnan), Fissocantharis semimetallicasp. n. (CHINA: Yunnan; MYANMAR: Kachin), Fissocantharis bicoloratasp. n. (CHINA: Sichuan), Fissocantharis maculicepssp. n. (CHINA: Gansu), Fissocantharis bimaculatasp. n. (CHINA: Sichuan) and Fissocantharis flavasp. n. (CHINA: Sichuan, Guizhou). The number of species in the Fissocantharis semifumata species-groupis increased from 4 to 11, and a key to all species is provided.

Taxonomic study of the genus Halolaguna Gozmany (Lepidoptera, Lecithoceridae) from China, with descriptions of two new species.

Project description:The genus Halolaguna Gozmány, 1978 is studied in China. Two new species, Halolagunaflabellata sp. n. from Guangxi and Halolagunadiscoidea sp. n. from Chongqing, Guangxi and Sichuan are described. The female of Halolagunaguizhouensis Wu, 2012 is reported for the first time. Photographs of adults and genitalia are provided. A checklist of all known Halolaguna species is included, along with a key to the Chinese species.
