The voltage-gated cardiac Na<sup>+</sup> channel (Na<sub>v</sub>1.5), encoded by the SCN5A gene, conducts the inward depolarizing cardiac Na<sup>+</sup> current (I<sub>Na</sub>) and is vital for normal cardiac electrical activity.
