Complete Genomic Sequence of the Potyvirus Mashua Virus Y, Obtained from a 33-Year-Old Mashua (Tropaeaolum tuberosum) Sample.

ABSTRACT: We present the complete genomic sequence of a new potyvirus we tentatively call Mashua virus Y (MasVY), first isolated in 1984 from a plant of the Andean tuber crop mashua (Tropaeolum tuberosum, family Tropaeolaceae). There was a 70% nucleotide identity between MasVY and a genomic sequence of Verbena virus Y.

Project description:A complete coding sequence of the type strain of Andean potato mottle virus from Peru (isolate Lm) was obtained. Comparison of its RNA1 and RNA2 sequences with variants of this virus isolated in Brazil revealed RNA1 and RNA2 nucleotide identities of 81 to 83% and 70 to 71%, respectively.

When compared with 51 BYMV genomes, it closely resembled the Western Australian isolate PN83A (Lupinus angustifolius), with 98.4% nucleotide identity.

Complete genome sequence of a novel potyvirus infecting Miscanthus sinensis (silver grass).

Project description:Here, we describe the full-length genome sequence of a novel potyvirus, tentatively named "Miscanthus sinensis mosaic virus" (MsiMV), isolated from Miscanthus sinensis (silver grass) held in a post-entry quarantine facility after being imported into Western Australia, Australia. The MsiMV genome is 9604 nucleotides (nt) in length, encoding a 3071-amino-acid (aa) polyprotein with conserved sequence motifs. The MsiMV genome is most closely related to that of sorghum mosaic virus (SrMV), with 74% nt and 78.5% aa sequence identity to the SrMV polyprotein region. Phylogenetic analysis based on the polyprotein grouped MsiMV with SrMV, sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), and maize dwarf mosaic virus (MDMV). This is the first report of a novel monopartite ssRNA virus in Miscanthus sinensis related to members of the genus Potyvirus in the family Potyviridae.

Project description:We report the complete genome sequence of a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) strain, hCoV-19/Bangladesh/icddrb-CHAMPS-BDAA02205/2021, obtained from a nasopharyngeal swab from a deceased neonate from Faridpur, Bangladesh. The strain belongs to lineage B.1.1.25 but contains some notable mutations similar to the B.1.1.7 lineage.
