Plant immunity depends on massive expression of pathogenesis-related genes (PRs) whose transcription is de-repressed by pathogen-induced signals. Salicylic acid (SA) acts as a major signaling molecule in plant immunity and systemic acquired resistance triggered by bacterial or viral pathogens.
