<h4>Objective</h4>Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are a group of fatal neurodegenerative diseases, often referred as prion diseases. TSEs result from the misfolding of the cellular prion protein (PrP<sup>C</sup>) into a pathogenic form (PrP<sup>Sc</sup>) that accumulates in the brain and lymphatic tissue.
