ABSTRACT: A mechanistic investigation of the carbohydrate/DBU cocatalyzed enantioselective diboration of alkenes is presented. These studies provide an understanding of the origin of stereoselectivity and also reveal a strategy for enhancing reactivity and broadening the substrate scope.
