New discoveries of the family Epicopeiidae from China, with description of a new species (Lepidoptera, Epicopeiidae).

ABSTRACT: Some new discoveries of the family Epicopeiidae Swinhoe, 1892 from China are reported. A new species, Mimaporiaowadai Huang & Wang, sp. n. is described from W. Sichuan. Burmeia Minet, 2003 and Psychostrophiaendoi Inoue, 1992 are reported as new to China, with the female genitalia of the former described for the first time. The females of Psychostrophiaendoi Inoue, 1992 and Deuveiabanghaasi Hering, 1932 are reported for the first time. Adults and genitalia of all species aforementioned are illustrated.

The genus Ptilophora (Lepidoptera, Notodontidae) in China, with description of a new species.

Project description:The genus Ptilophora Stephens in China is briefly reviewed, with the description of Ptilophora nanlingensissp. n. The new species is most similar to Ptilophora horieaurea in wing pattern and to Ptilophora jezoensis in male genitalia, but they can be distinguished from each other by the following characters: forewing bright reddish brown in Ptilophora nanlingensis, chestnut brown in Ptilophora horieaurea; costa of male genitalia pointed, with a rounded subapical process ventrally in Ptilophora jezoensis, costa rounded, with apex inflated, and with pointed subapical process ventrally in Ptilophora nanlingensis. A key to the Ptilophora species from China and adjacent areas is presented and a distribution map is given. The holotype of the new species is deposited in the Department of Entomology, South China Agricultural University, P. R. China.

Description of a new Hiroshia species (Lepidoptera, Thyatiridae) from Hubei Province, China.

Project description:A third species of Hiroshia László, Ronkay & Ronkay, 2001, H. shennongjiaensis Ronkay, Ronkay & Han, sp. nov. is described from Hubei Province in China. The adult and the male genitalia of the new species are illustrated and compared with those of its congeners, H. albinigra László, Ronkay & Ronkay, 2001 and H. nanlingana Zhuang, Owada & Wang, 2014; an identification key based on the male genitalia is presented.

New records of two lycaenid butterfly species (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) in China, with the description of a new subspecies.

Project description:BackgroundThe family Lycaenidae is the second-largest group of butterflies which contains about one third of the known species of Papilionoidea. The genera Tajuria Moore, [1881] and Drupadia Moore, 1884 are both mainly found in the Oriental and Australian realms. In a very recent expedition to south-west China in Xishuangbanna (Yunnan Province), specimens of T. sekii Saito, 2005 and D. scaeva (Hewitson, 1869) were collected for the first time, a new subspecies of the former: T. sekii sisyphus ssp. nov., is described and illustrated and the latter species comprises the first record of the genus Drupadia in China.New informationA new subspecies of T. sekii Saito, 2005, T. sekii sisyphus ssp. nov., is described and illustrated. The species T. sekii Saito, 2005 and D. scaeva (Hewitson, 1869) are first recorded in China and the latter comprises the first record of the genus Drupadia in China. Review of the genus Thubana Walker (Lepidoptera, Lecithoceridae) from China, with description of one new species.

Project description:The genus Thubana Walker is reviewed for China. Nine species are recognized, of which Thubana felinaurita Li, sp. n. is described as new; Thubana dialeukos Park, 2003 and Thubana xanthoteles (Meyrick, 1923) are newly recorded for this country; Thubana stenosis (Park, 2003), syn. n. is synonymised with Thubana xanthoteles, and Thubana microcera (Gozmány, 1978), syn. n. with Thubana leucosphena Meyrick, 1931. Images of adults and genitalia are provided. A checklist of Thubana species in China is included, along with a key to these species.

Project description:The genus Isodemis Diakonoff, 1952 in China is reviewed, with seven species recognized. Three new species are described: Isodemis quadratasp. n., Isodemis guangxiensissp. n. and Isodemis hainanensissp. n. The female of Isodemis stenotera Diakonoff, 1983 is described for the first time. Variation within Isodemis illiberalis (Meyrick, 1918) and Isodemis stenotera is briefly discussed. Images of the adults and genitalia are provided, along with a key to the described species.

A review of Timandra Duponchel, 1829 from China, with description of seven new species (Lepidoptera, Geometridae).

Project description:The Chinese species of the genus Timandra Duponchel, 1829 are reviewed: 12 known species are reported. Seven new species are described from China, increasing the total number of Timandra species to 28: T.distorta sp. n., T.adunca sp. n., T.quadrata sp. n., T.accumulata sp. n., T.viminea sp. n., T.robusta sp. n. and T.stueningi sp. n. Diagnoses for all 19 Chinese species are provided, with illustrations of external features and genitalia.

Project description:The genus Biston Leach, 1815 is reviewed for China. Seventeen species are recognized, of which Biston mediolatasp. n. is described. Biston pustulata (Warren, 1896) and Biston panterinariaexanthemata (Moore, 1888) are newly recorded for China. The following new synonyms are established: Biston suppressaria suppressaria (Guenée, 1858) (= Biston suppressaria benescripta (Prout, 1915), syn. n. = Biston luculentus Inoue, 1992 syn. n.); Biston falcata (Warren, 1893) (= Amphidasiserilda Oberthür, 1910, syn. n. = Amphidasis clorinda Oberthür, 1910, syn. n. = Biston emarginaria Leech, 1897, syn. n.); Biston panterinaria panterinaria (Bremer & Grey, 1853) (= Biston panterinaria abraxata (Leech, 1889), syn. n. = Biston panterinaria lienpingensis (Wehrli, 1939), syn. n. = B. panterinaria szechuanensis (Wehrli, 1939), syn. n.). Biston falcata satura (Wehrli,1941), comb. n. is proposed. A key to Chinese Biston and diagnoses for Chinese species are provided. Illustrations of external features and genitalia are presented.

Revision of Nagiella Munroe (Lepidoptera, Crambidae), with the description of a new species from China.

Project description:The genus Nagiella was studied using morphological and DNA barcode data. Nagiella bispina sp. nov. is described as a new species, and N. hortulatoides Munroe is recorded in China for the first time. The diagnosis of this genus is revised, and the genitalia description of N. quadrimaculalis (Kollar and Redtenbacher) and N. inferior (Hampson) are given in English for the first time. Nosophora incomitata (Swinhoe) stat. rev. is removed from the synonym of N. quadrimaculalis. Photographs of the habitus and genitalia as well as COI DNA Barcode data of these four species are provided.
