Human cells express the UDG superfamily of glycosylases, which excise uracil (U) from the genome. The three members of this structural superfamily are uracil DNA glycosylase (UNG/UDG), single-strand selective monofunctional uracil DNA glycosylase (SMUG1), and thymine DNA glycosylase (TDG).
