<i>Brucella</i> organisms are intracellular stealth pathogens of animals and humans. The bacteria overcome the assault of innate immunity at early stages of an infection. Removal of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) at the onset of adaptive immunity against <i>Brucella abortus</i> favored bacterial elimination in mice.
