Catalytic enantioselective oxidative coupling of saturated ethers with carboxylic acid derivatives.

Project description:Catalytic enantioselective C-C bond forming process through cross-dehydrogenative coupling represents a promising synthetic strategy, but it remains a long-standing challenge in chemistry. Here, we report a formal catalytic enantioselective cross-dehydrogenative coupling of saturated ethers with diverse carboxylic acid derivatives involving an initial oxidative acetal formation, followed by nickel(II)-catalyzed asymmetric alkylation. The one-pot, general, and modular method exhibits wide compatibility of a broad range of saturated ethers not only including prevalent tetrahydrofuran and tetrahydropyran, but also including medium- and large-sized cyclic moieties and acyclic ones with excellent enantioselectivity and functional group tolerance. The application in the rapid preparation of biologically active molecules that are difficult to access with existing methods is also demonstrated.

Nickel-Mediated Photoreductive Cross Coupling of Carboxylic Acid Derivatives for Ketone Synthesis.

Project description:A simple visible light photochemical, nickel-catalyzed synthesis of ketones from carboxylic acid-derived precursors is presented. Hantzsch ester (HE) functions as a cheap, green and strong photoreductant to facilitate radical generation and also engages in the Ni-catalytic cycle to restore the reactive species. With this dual role, HE allows for the coupling of a large variety of radicals (1°,2°, benzylic, α-oxy & α-amino) with aroyl and alkanoyl moieties, a new feature in reactions of this type. With both precursors deriving from abundant carboxylic acids, this protocol is a welcome addition to the organic chemistry toolbox. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions without the need for toxic metal reagents or bases and shows a wide scope, including pharmaceuticals and complex molecular architectures.

Catalytic Enantioselective Synthesis of anti-Vicinal Silylboronates by Conjunctive Cross-Coupling.

Project description:Chiral 1,2-bimetallic reagents are useful motifs in synthetic chemistry. Although syn-1,2-bimetallic compounds can be prepared by alkene dimetallation, anti-1,2-bimetallics are still rare. The stereospecific 1,2-metallate shift that occurs during conjunctive cross-coupling is shown to enable a practical and modular approach to the catalytic synthesis of enantioenriched anti-1,2-borosilanes. In addition to reaction development, the synthetic utility of anti-1,2-borosilanes was investigated, including applications to the synthesis of anti-1,2-diols and anti-1,2-amino alcohols.

Thermodynamics and Catalytic Properties of Two Novel Energetic Complexes Based on 3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole-5-carboxylic Acid.

Project description:For energetic materials (EMs), the key point of the present research is to improve the energetic property and reduce sensitivity. In this work, two new energetic complexes, Mn(atzc)2(H2O)2·2H2O (1) and Zn(atzc)2(H2O) (2) (Hatzc = 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole-5-carboxylic acid), were synthesized by solvent evaporation and diffusion methods, respectively. The structural analyses illustrate that 1 and 2 exhibit zero-dimensional structural units, which are linked by hydrogen-bonding interactions to give three-dimensional supramolecular architectures. For complexes 1 and 2, the detonation velocities (D) are 10.4 and 10.2 km·s-1 and detonation pressures (P) are 48.7 and 48.6 GPa, respectively. They are higher than most of the reported EMs, which present prominent detonation characteristics. In addition, two complexes can accelerate the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate and exhibit excellent catalytic activity. Therefore, the two complexes can serve as a new class of promising EMs, which have potential application in the design of new high-efficiency solid catalysts.

Optical Resolution of Carboxylic Acid Derivatives of Homoleptic Cyclometalated Iridium(III) Complexes via Diastereomers Formed with Chiral Auxiliaries.

Project description:We report on a facile method for the optical resolution of cyclometalated iridium(III) (Ir(III)) complexes via diastereomers formed with chiral auxiliaries. The racemic carboxylic acids of Ir(III) complexes (fac-4 (fac-Ir(ppyCO2H)3 (ppy: 2-phenylpyridine)), fac-6 (fac-Ir(tpyCO2H)3 (tpy: 2-(4'-tolyl)pyridine)), and fac-13 (fac-Ir(mpiqCO2H)3 (mpiq: 1-(4'-methylphenyl)isoquinoline))) were converted into the diastereomers, Δ- and Λ-forms of fac-9 (from fac-6), fac-10 (from fac-4), fac-11 (from fac-6), and fac-14 (from fac-13), respectively, by the condensation with (1R,2R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane or (1R,2R)-2-aminocyclohexanol. The resulting diastereomers were separated by HPLC (with a nonchiral column) or silica gel column chromatography, and their absolute stereochemistry was determined by X-ray single-crystal structure analysis and CD (circular dichroism) spectra. Spectra of all diastereomers of the Ir(III) complexes are reported. Hydrolysis of the ester moieties of Δ- and Λ-forms of fac-10, fac-11, and fac-14 gave both enantiomers of the corresponding carboxylic acid derivatives in the optically pure forms, Δ-fac and Λ-fac-4, -6, and -13, respectively.
