The organization of microtubules into a bipolar spindle is essential for chromosome segregation. Both centrosome and chromatin-dependent spindle assembly mechanisms are well studied in mouse, <i>Drosophila melanogaster</i>, and <i>Xenopus</i> oocytes; however, the mechanism of bipolar spindle assembly in plant meiosis remains elusive.
