Recently, metal-free, heteroatom-doped carbon nanomaterials have emerged as promising electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), but their synthesis is a tedious process involving energy-wasting calcination. Molecular electrocatalysts offer attractive catalysts for the OER.
