The <i>CDH1</i> gene, encoding the cell adhesion protein E-cadherin, is one of the most frequently mutated genes in gastric cancer and inactivating germline <i>CDH1</i> mutations are responsible for hereditary diffuse gastric cancer syndrome (HDGC).
