The mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS, e.g., liver, spleen) is often treated as a "blackbox" by nanoresearchers in translating nanomedicines. Often, most of the injected nanomaterials are sequestered by the MPS, preventing their delivery to the desired disease areas.
