Unlike many other well-characterized bacteria, the opportunistic human pathogen <i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i> relies exclusively on the Entner-Doudoroff pathway (EDP) for glycolysis. Pyruvate kinase (PK) is the main "pacemaker" of the EDP, and its activity is also relevant for <i>P. aeruginosa</i> virulence.
