Na<sub>v</sub>1.5 inactivation is necessary for healthy conduction of the cardiac action potential. Genetic mutations of Na<sub>v</sub>1.5 perturb inactivation and cause potentially fatal arrhythmias associated with long QT syndrome type 3.
