CD133, known as prominin1, is a penta-span transmembrane glycoprotein presumably a cancer stem cell marker for carcinomas, glioblastomas, and melanomas. We showed that CD133(+) 'melanoma-initiating cells' are associated with chemoresistance, contributing to poor patient outcome.
