One-Pot Two-Step Synthesis of 2-Aryl benzimidazole N-oxides Using Microwave Heating as a Tool.

ABSTRACT: A methodology is reported for the preparation of 2-aryl-benzimidazole-3-oxide derivatives. By means of a one-pot two-step protocol, a library of 42 new compounds has been prepared. Reactions were performed in a total time of 40 min using microwave heating as a tool. A streamlined work-up process was also developed, allowing for facile isolation of the products. The methodology offers a more sustainable approach than previous routes, with only water and ethanol being used as solvents, and the products being isolated by means of a simple filtration without the need for any further purification.

Project description:A new method for fast and simple synthesis of crystalline TiO2 nanoparticles with photocatalytic activity was developed by carrying out a classic sol-gel reaction directly under vacuum. The use of microwaves for fast heating of the reaction medium further reduces synthesis times. When the solvent is completely removed by vacuum, the product is obtained in the form of a powder that can be easily redispersed in water to yield a stable nanoparticle suspension, exhibiting a comparable photocatalytic activity with respect to a commercial product. The present methodology can, therefore, be considered a process intensification procedure for the production of nanotitania.

Project description:A family of ?-aryl-?-aminophosphonates and ?-aryl-?-aminophosphine oxides was synthesized by the microwave-assisted solvent-free addition of dialkyl phosphites and diphenylphosphine oxide, respectively, to imines formed from benzaldehyde derivatives and primary amines. After optimization, the reactivity was mapped, and the fine mechanism was evaluated by DFT calculations. Two ?-aminophosphonates were subjected to an X-ray study revealing a racemic dimer formation made through a N-H···O=P intermolecular hydrogen bridges pair.

One-pot, two-step cascade synthesis of quinazolinotriazolobenzodiazepines.

Project description:An operationally simple, one-pot, two-step cascade method has been developed to afford quinazolino[1,2,3]triazolo[1,4]benzodiazepines. This unique, atom-economical transformation engages five reactive centers (amide, aniline, carbonyl, azide, and alkyne) and employs environmentally benign iodine as a catalyst. The method proceeds via sequential quinazolinone-forming condensation and intramolecular azide-alkyne 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions. Substrate scope, multicomponent examples, and mechanistic insights are discussed.

Microwave assisted, sequential two-step, one-pot synthesis of novel imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine containing tri/tetrasubstituted imidazole derivatives.

Project description:A series of novel imidazo[1,2- a ]pyrimidine containing tri/tetrasubstituted imidazole derivatives (1-10) has been synthesized via sequential two-step, one-pot, multicomponent reaction using imidazo[1,2- a ]pyrimidine-2-carbaldehyde, benzil, primary amines, and ammonium acetate catalyzed by p -toluenesulfonic acid under microwave-assisted conditions. The results showed that target compounds can be obtained from a wide range of primary amines bearing different functional groups with moderate to good yields (46%-80%) under optimum reaction conditions. This method provides a green protocol for imidazo[1,2- a ]pyrimidine containing tri/tetrasubstituted imidazole derivatives due to ethyl alcohol as a green solvent, microwave irradiation as a greener heating method and one-pot multicomponent reaction as a green technique. The synthesized compounds have been elucidated using various spectroscopic tools such as FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13 C NMR, and MS.

One-pot palladium-catalyzed synthesis of sulfonyl fluorides from aryl bromides.

Project description:A mild, efficient synthesis of sulfonyl fluorides from aryl and heteroaryl bromides utilizing palladium catalysis is described. The process involves the initial palladium-catalyzed sulfonylation of aryl bromides using DABSO as an SO2 source, followed by in situ treatment of the resultant sulfinate with the electrophilic fluorine source NFSI. This sequence represents the first general method for the sulfonylation of aryl bromides, and offers a practical, one-pot alternative to previously described syntheses of sulfonyl fluorides, allowing rapid access to these biologically important molecules. Excellent functional group tolerance is demonstrated, with the transformation successfully achieved on a number of active pharmaceutical ingredients, and their precursors. The preparation of peptide-derived sulfonyl fluorides is also demonstrated.

Microwave-Assisted, One-Pot Synthesis of Doxycycline under Heterogeneous Catalysis in Water.

Project description:The selective synthesis of active pharmaceutical molecules is a challenging issue, particularly when attempting to make the reactions even more sustainable. The present work focuses on the microwave-assisted hydrogenolysis of oxytetracycline to selectively produce α-doxycycline. Although the combination of microwave irradiation and a heterogeneous rhodium catalyst provided good conversions, the selective synthesis of active α-doxycycline was only achieved when an oxytetracycline-cyclodextrin complex was used as the starting material, giving the desired product at 34.0% yield in a one-step reaction under very mild conditions.

Two-Step, One-Pot Synthesis of Visible-Light-Responsive 6-Azopurines.

Project description:The first general two-step, one-pot synthetic route to 6-azopurines is presented. Microwave-assisted nucleophilic aromatic substitution of protected 6-chloropurines with hydrazines or hydrazides, followed by metal-free oxidation with oxygen, gives 6-azopurines in high to excellent yields. Facile One-Pot Solvothermal Synthesis of the RGO/MWCNT/Fe3O4 Hybrids for Microwave Absorption.

Project description:How to effectively regulate the electromagnetic parameters of magnetic composites to achieve better microwave absorption (MA) performances is still a serious challenge. Herein, we constructed nanocomposites composed of magnetic constituents and carbon materials to obtain high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorbers. Self-assembled, multi-interfacial, and porous RGO/MWCNT/Fe3O4 hybrids (GMFs) were synthesized via in situ one-pot solvothermal method. The growth mechanism of the GMFs would be that the defects on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) provide sites for the crystallization of Fe3O4. Also, the RGO and Fe3O4 were further linked by the cross-connection of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which acted as a bridge. The MA mechanism of GMFs was studied while considering the synergistic effects between the three components (RGO, MWCNT, and raspberry-shaped Fe3O4) and their multi-interfacial and porous structure. Also, the MA performance of the GMFs was conducted. The GMFs exhibited a maximum reflection loss (RL) value of -61.29 dB at 10.48 GHz with a thickness of 2.6 mm when the contents of RGO and MWCNT were 6.3 and 1.3 wt %, respectively. The RL values (≤-10 dB) were observed to be in the range of 8.96-12.32 GHz, and the effective microwave absorption bandwidth was tunable from 3.52 to 18 GHz by changing the sample thickness. The results revealed that the multi-interfacial and porous structure of the GMFs is beneficial to MA performance by inducing multiscatterings. Since no toxic solvents were used, this method is environmentally friendly and has potential for large-scale production. The prepared GMFs may have a wide range of applications in MA materials against electromagnetic interference pollution.

Microwave-Assisted Sequential One-Pot Synthesis of 8-Substituted Pyrazolo[1,5-a][1,3,5]triazines.

Project description:This paper reports a convenient sequential one-pot approach for the synthesis of an array of 14 pyrazolo[1,5-a][1,3,5]triazines, substituted in C8 by halogen (Br), various functions (CN and CO2Et) and alkyl or (het)aryl groups. This study confirms the interest of combining the efficient heating obtained under dielectric microwave heating and the achievement of sequential one-pot reactions, avoiding the tedious work-up and purification of intermediate compounds, achieving sustainable synthesis processes. Considering usual conventional methods, this microwave protocol is featured by advantages in terms of yields, reaction times, and convenient gram scale synthesis.
