Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a useful tool for disease diagnosis and treatment monitoring. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) show good performance as transverse relaxation (T<sub>2</sub>) contrast agents, thus facilitating the interpretation of the acquired images.
