Alzheimer's disease (AD) is historically difficult to treat, in part because of the inaccessible nature of brain pathology. Amyloid beta and tau proteins drive pathology by forming toxic oligomers that eventually deposit as insoluble amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles.
