4-methylumbelliferone (4MU) is an inhibitor of hyaluronan deposition and an active substance of hymecromone, a choleretic and antispasmodic drug. 4MU reported to be anti-fibrotic in mouse models; however, precise mechanism of action still requires further investigation.
