Autotransporters are secreted proteins with multiple functions produced by a variety of Gram-negative bacteria. In <i>Enterobacteriaceae</i>, a subgroup of these autotransporters are the SPATEs (serine protease autotransporters of <i>Enterobacteriaceae</i>).
