Like many important crops, peanut is a polyploid that underwent polyploidization, evolution, and domestication. The wild allotetraploid peanut species <i>Arachis monticola</i> (<i>A. monticola</i>) is an important and unique link from the wild diploid species to cultivated tetraploid species in the <i>Arachis</i> lineage.
