ABSTRACT: Highlights•Aging is the most important risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease and dementia. Yet, the overlapping underlying mechanisms are not completely appreciated.•A?, an aging-induced peptide and the hallmark of the amyloid hypothesis of Alzheimer’s disease, constitutes an independent cardiovascular risk factor.•We review the determinants and the role of A? in cardiovascular system and disease.•We call for research gathering evidence on how to treat this newly recognized entity.
