l-Ascorbate (vitamin C) is ubiquitous in both our diet and the environment. Here we report that <i>Ralstonia eutropha</i> H16 (<i>Cupriavidus necator</i> ATCC 17699) uses l-ascorbate as sole carbon source via a novel catabolic pathway.
