A redetermination of the crystal structure of the mannitol complex NH4[Mo2O5(C6H11O6)]·H2O: hydrogen-bonding scheme and Hirshfeld surface analysis.

ABSTRACT: The redetermined structure [for the previous study, see: Godfrey & Waters (1975 ?). Cryst. Struct. Commun. 4, 5-8] of ammonium ?-oxido-?-[1,5,6-tri-hydroxy-hexane-2,3,4-tris-(olato)]bis-[dioxidomolybdenum(V)] monohydrate, NH4[Mo2(C6H11O6)O5]·H2O, was obtained from an attempt to prepare a glutamic acid complex from the [Co2Mo10H4O38]6- anion. Subsequent study indicated the complex arose from a substantial impurity of mannitol in the glutamic acid sample used. All hydrogen atoms have been located in the present study and the packing displays N-H?O, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. A Hirshfeld surface analysis was also performed.

Project description:In the title mol-ecular salt, 1,3-dimethyl-2,6-dioxo-2,3,6,7-tetra-hydro-1H-purin-9-ium aqua-tri-chlorido-zincate(II), (C7H9N4O2)[ZnCl3(H2O)], the fused ring system of the cation is close to planar, with the largest deviation from the mean plane being 0.037 (3) Å. In the complex anion, the ZnII cation is coordinated by three chloride ions and one oxygen atom from the water ligand in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal, inversion dimers between pairs of cations linked by pairwise N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generate R 2 2(10) rings. The anions are linked into dimers by pairs of O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and the respective dimers are linked by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. Together, these generate a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. Hirshfeld surfaces were generated to gain further insight into the packing.

Crystal structure of NH4[La(SO4)2(H2O)].

Project description:The principal building units in the crystal structure of ammonium aqua-bis(sulfato)-lanthanate(III) are slightly distorted SO4 tetra-hedra, LaO9 polyhedra in the form of distorted tricapped trigonal prisms, and NH4 (+) ions. The La(3+) cation is coordinated by eight O atoms from six different sulfate tetra-hedra, two of which are bidentate coordinating and four monodentate, as well as one O atom from a water mol-ecule; each sulfate anion bridges three La(3+) cations. These bridging modes result in the formation of a three-dimensional anionic [La(SO4)2(H2O)](-) framework that is stabilized by O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. The disordered ammonium cations are situated in the cavities of this framework and are hydrogen-bonded to six surrounding O atoms.

Crystal structure of CdSO4(H2O): a redetermination.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, cadmium sulfate monohydrate or poly[(μ2-aqua)(μ4-sulfato)-cadmium], was redetermined based on modern CMOS (complementary metal oxide silicon) data. In comparison with the previous study [Bregeault & Herpin (1970 ▸). Bull. Soc. Fr. Mineral. Cristallogr. 93, 37-42], all non-H atoms were refined with anisotropic displacement parameters and the hydrogen-bonding pattern unambiguously established due to location of the hydrogen atoms. In addition, a significant improvement in terms of precision and accuracy was achieved. In the crystal, the Cd(2+) cation is coordinated by four O atoms of four sulfate anions and two O atoms of water mol-ecules, forming a distorted octa-hedral trans-[CdO6] polyhedron. Each sulfate anion bridges four Cd(2+) cations and each water mol-ecule bridges two Cd(2+) cations, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional framework, with Cd⋯Cd separations in the range 4.0757 (2)-6.4462 (3) Å. O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions of medium strength between the coordinating water mol-ecules and sulfate anions consolidate the crystal packing.

Crystal structure, hydrogen bonding and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 2-amino-4-meth-oxy-6-methyl-pyrimidinium 4-chloro-benzoate.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title salt, C6H10N3O+·C7H4ClO2-, the dihedral angle between the pyrimidine ring of the 2-amino-4-meth-oxy-6-methyl-pyrimidine cation and the the benzene ring of the 2-chloro-benzoate anion is 2.2 (1)°. In the anion, the benzene ring forms a dihedral angle of 8.5 (2)° with the carboxyl group. The pyrimidine N atom of the cation is protonated and the meth-oxy substituent is essentially coplanar with the parent ring. The protonated N atom and the N atom of the 2-amino group are hydrogen bonded to the 4-chloro-benzoate anion through a pair of N-H⋯Ocarbox-yl hydrogen bonds, forming an R22(8) ring motif linked through a centrosymmetric R24(8) ring motif, resulting in a pseudo-tetra-meric DDAA array. These units are linked through inter-molecular meth-oxy C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds into ribbon-like chains extending along the c-axis direction. The crystal structure also features π-π stacking inter-actions between the rings in the cation and anion [minimum ring centroid separation = 3.7707 (12) Å].

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 1,2,4-triazolium hydrogen oxalate.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title 1:1 salt 1,2,4-triazolium hydrogen oxalate, C2H4N3 +·C2HO4 - (I), comprises one 1,2,4-triazolium cation and one hydrogen oxalate anion. In the crystal, the hydrogen oxalate anions are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into chains running parallel to [100]. In turn, the anionic chains are linked through the 1,2,4-triazolium cations by charge-assisted +N-H⋯O- hydrogen bonds into sheets aligned parallel to (01). The sheets are further stacked through π-π inter-actions between the 1,2,4-triazolium rings [centroid-to-centroid distance = 3.642 (3) Å, normal distance = 3.225 (3) Å, slippage 1.691 Å], resulting in the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. Hirshfeld surface analysis of the title salt suggests that the most significant contributions to the crystal packing are by H⋯O/O⋯H and H⋯N/N⋯H contacts involving the hydrogen bonds.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 2-amino-pyridinium hydrogen phthalate.

Project description:Amino-pyridine and phthalic acid are well known synthons for supra-molecular architectures for the synthesis of new materials for optical applications. The 2-amino-pyridinium hydrogen phthalate title salt, C5H7N2 +·C8H5O4 -, crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric space group P21. The nitro-gen atom of the -NH2 group in the cation deviates from the fitted pyridine plane by 0.035 (7) Å. The plane of the pyridinium ring and phenyl ring of the anion are oriented at an angle of 80.5 (3)° to each other in the asymmetric unit. The anion features a strong intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond, forming a self-associated S(7) ring motif. The crystal packing is dominated by inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds leading to the formation of 21 helices, with a C(11) chain motif. They propagate along the b axis and enclose R 2 2(8) ring motifs. The helices are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to the ab plane. Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were used to investigate and qu-antify the inter-molecular inter-actions in the crystal.

Redetermination of [EuCl2(H2O)6]Cl.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, hexa-aqua-dichlorido-europium(III) chloride, was redetermined with modern crystallographic methods. In comparison with the previous study [Lepert et al. (1983 ▶). Aust. J. Chem. 36, 477-482], it could be shown that the atomic coordinates of some O atoms had been confused and now were corrected. Moreover, it was possible to freely refine the positions of the H atoms and thus to improve the accurracy of the crystal structure. [EuCl2(H2O)6]Cl crystallizes with the GdCl3·6H2O structure-type, exhibiting discrete [EuCl2(H2O)6](+) cations as the main building blocks. The main blocks are linked with isolated chloride anions via O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional framework. The Eu(3+) cation is located on a twofold rotation axis and is coordinated in the form of a Cl2O6 square anti-prism. One chloride anion coordinates directly to Eu(3+), whereas the other chloride anion, situated on a twofold rotation axis, is hydrogen bonded to six octa-hedrally arranged water mol-ecules.

Phenol hemihydrate: redetermination of the crystal structure by neutron powder diffraction, Hirshfeld surface analysis and characterization of the thermal expansion.

Project description:Phenol hemihydrate, C5H5OH·0.5H2O, crystallizes in the space group Pbcn, Z = 8. The previously published crystal structure [CSD refcode PHOLHH; Meuthen & von Stackelberg (1960 ▸). Z. Elektrochem. 64, 387-390] is shown to be incorrect. Pairs of phenol mol-ecules, related by an inversion centre, are bridged by one water mol-ecule via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds; an extended R 4 4(8) hydrogen-bonded motif links these inversion dimers into chains parallel to the c axis. Packing of the chains is achieved by weaker T-shaped C-H⋯π inter-actions between nearest neighbour phenol mol-ecules in the bc plane. Analysis of the thermal expansion and parameterization with a Debye model in terms of the linear elastic moduli shows that the c axis is ∼3 times stiffer than the two orthogonal directions.

Deciphering the hydrogen-bonding scheme in the crystal structure of triphenylmethanol: a tribute to George Ferguson and co-workers.

Project description:The crystal structure of triphenylmethanol, C19H16O, has been redetermined using data collected at 295 and 153?K, and is compared to the model published by Ferguson et al. over 25 years ago [Ferguson et al. (1992). Acta Cryst. C48, 1272-1275] and that published by Serrano-González et al., using neutron and X-ray diffraction data [Serrano-González et al. (1999). J. Phys. Chem. B, 103, 6215-6223]. As predicted by these authors, the hydroxy groups are involved in weak intermolecular hydrogen bonds in the crystal, forming tetrahedral tetramers based on the two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit, one of which is placed on the threefold symmetry axis of the R-3 space group. However, the reliable determination of the hydroxy H-atom positions is difficult to achieve, for two reasons. Firstly, a positional disorder affects the full asymmetric unit, which is split over two sets of positions, with occupancy factors of ca 0.74 and 0.26. Secondly, all hydroxy H atoms are further disordered, either by symmetry, or through a positional disorder in the case of parts placed in general positions. We show that the correct description of the hydrogen-bonding scheme is possible only if diffraction data are collected at low temperature. The prochiral character of the hydrogen-bonded tetrameric supramolecular clusters leads to enantiomorphic three-dimensional graphs in each tetramer. The crystal is thus a racemic mixture of supS and supR motifs, consistent with the centrosymmetric nature of the R-3 space group.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title salt {systematic name: [1,3-phenyl-enebis(methyl-ene)]bis-(aza-nium) sulfate}, C8H14N2 (2+)·SO4 (2-), consists of infinite (100) sheets of alternating organic and inorganic entities The m-xylylenediaminium cations are linked to the sulfate anions by N-H?O and asymmetric bifurcated N-H?(O,O) hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional network. A weak C-H?O inter-action also occurs. The Hirshfeld surface analysis and the two-dimensional fingerprint maps indicate that the packing is dominated by H?O/O?H and H?H contacts.
