Crystal structure of NH4[La(SO4)2(H2O)].

ABSTRACT: The principal building units in the crystal structure of ammonium aqua-bis(sulfato)-lanthanate(III) are slightly distorted SO4 tetra-hedra, LaO9 polyhedra in the form of distorted tricapped trigonal prisms, and NH4 (+) ions. The La(3+) cation is coordinated by eight O atoms from six different sulfate tetra-hedra, two of which are bidentate coordinating and four monodentate, as well as one O atom from a water mol-ecule; each sulfate anion bridges three La(3+) cations. These bridging modes result in the formation of a three-dimensional anionic [La(SO4)2(H2O)](-) framework that is stabilized by O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. The disordered ammonium cations are situated in the cavities of this framework and are hydrogen-bonded to six surrounding O atoms.

Project description:The mixed-metal sulfate, KEu(SO4)2·H2O, has been obtained as a new polymorph using hydro-thermal conditions. The crystal structure is isotypic with NaCe(SO4)2·H2O and shows a three-dimensional connectivity of the tetra-hedral sulfate units with EuIII and KI ions. Tricapped trigonal-prismatic EuO9 units and square-anti-prismatic KO8 units link the SO4 tetra-hedra, building the three-dimensional structure. Topological analysis reveals the existence of two nodes with 6- and 10-connected nets. The compound was previously reported [Kazmierczak & Höppe (2010 ▸). J. Solid State Chem.183, 2087-2094] in the monoclinic space group P21/c with a similar structural connectivity and coordination environments to the present compound.

Project description:The redetermined structure [for the previous study, see: Godfrey & Waters (1975 ?). Cryst. Struct. Commun. 4, 5-8] of ammonium ?-oxido-?-[1,5,6-tri-hydroxy-hexane-2,3,4-tris-(olato)]bis-[dioxidomolybdenum(V)] monohydrate, NH4[Mo2(C6H11O6)O5]·H2O, was obtained from an attempt to prepare a glutamic acid complex from the [Co2Mo10H4O38]6- anion. Subsequent study indicated the complex arose from a substantial impurity of mannitol in the glutamic acid sample used. All hydrogen atoms have been located in the present study and the packing displays N-H?O, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. A Hirshfeld surface analysis was also performed.

Crystal structure of CdSO4(H2O): a redetermination.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, cadmium sulfate monohydrate or poly[(μ2-aqua)(μ4-sulfato)-cadmium], was redetermined based on modern CMOS (complementary metal oxide silicon) data. In comparison with the previous study [Bregeault & Herpin (1970 ▸). Bull. Soc. Fr. Mineral. Cristallogr. 93, 37-42], all non-H atoms were refined with anisotropic displacement parameters and the hydrogen-bonding pattern unambiguously established due to location of the hydrogen atoms. In addition, a significant improvement in terms of precision and accuracy was achieved. In the crystal, the Cd(2+) cation is coordinated by four O atoms of four sulfate anions and two O atoms of water mol-ecules, forming a distorted octa-hedral trans-[CdO6] polyhedron. Each sulfate anion bridges four Cd(2+) cations and each water mol-ecule bridges two Cd(2+) cations, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional framework, with Cd⋯Cd separations in the range 4.0757 (2)-6.4462 (3) Å. O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions of medium strength between the coordinating water mol-ecules and sulfate anions consolidate the crystal packing.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of (C7H9N4O2)[ZnCl3(H2O)].

Project description:In the title mol-ecular salt, 1,3-dimethyl-2,6-dioxo-2,3,6,7-tetra-hydro-1H-purin-9-ium aqua-tri-chlorido-zincate(II), (C7H9N4O2)[ZnCl3(H2O)], the fused ring system of the cation is close to planar, with the largest deviation from the mean plane being 0.037 (3) Å. In the complex anion, the ZnII cation is coordinated by three chloride ions and one oxygen atom from the water ligand in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal, inversion dimers between pairs of cations linked by pairwise N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generate R 2 2(10) rings. The anions are linked into dimers by pairs of O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and the respective dimers are linked by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. Together, these generate a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. Hirshfeld surfaces were generated to gain further insight into the packing.

Crystal structure of (NH4)2[Fe(II) 5(HPO3)6], a new open-framework phosphite.

Project description:Di-ammonium hexa-phosphito-penta-ferrate(II), (NH4)2[Fe5(HPO3)6], was synthesized under mild hydro-thermal conditions and autogeneous pressure, yielding twinned crystals. The crystal structure exhibits an [Fe(II) 5(HPO3)6](2-) open framework with NH4 (+) groups as counter-cations. The anionic skeleton is based on (001) sheets of [FeO6] octa-hedra (one with point-group symmetry 3.. and one with .2.) linked along [001] through [HPO3](2-) oxoanions. Each sheet is constructed from 12-membered rings of edge-sharing [FeO6] octa-hedra, giving rise to channels with a radius of ca 3.1?Å in which the disordered NH4 (+) cations are located. The IR spectrum shows vibrational bands typical for phosphite and ammonium groups.

Crystal structure of [Y6(?6-O)(?3-OH)8(H2O)24]I8·8H2O.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound {systematic name: octa-?3-hydroxido-?6-oxido-hexa-kis-[tetra-aqua-yttrium(III)] octa-iodide octa-hydrate}, is characterized by the presence of the centrosymmetric mol-ecular entity [Y6(?6-O)(?3-OH)8(H2O)24](8+), in which the six Y(3+) cations are arranged octa-hedrally around a ?6-O atom at the centre of the cationic complex. Each of the eight faces of the Y6 octa-hedron is capped by an ?3-OH group in the form of a distorted cube. In the hexa-nuclear entity, the Y(3+) cations are coordinated by the central ?6-O atom, the O atoms of four ?3-OH and of four water mol-ecules. The resulting coordination sphere of the metal ions is a capped square-anti-prism. The crystal packing is quite similar to that of the ortho-rhom-bic [Ln 6(?6-O)(?3-OH)8(H2O)24]I8·8H2O structures with Ln = La-Nd, Eu-Tb, Dy, except that the title compound exhibits a slight monoclinic distortion. The proximity of the cationic complexes and the lattice water mol-ecules leads to the formation of a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network of medium strength.

Crystal structure of La<sub>24</sub>Ru<sub>11</sub>.

Project description:The compound La24Ru11 (tetra-cosa-lanthanum undeca-ruthenium) crystallizes in a Ce24Co11-type structure. The non-centrosymmetric crystal structure (space group P63 mc) contains RuLa6 trigonal prisms, La6 octa-hedra and LaRu4 tetra-hedra and is closely related to that of Ce23Ni7Mg4. This communication highlights the crystal-chemical similarities and points out the differences between the two structures. All of the tested crystals were inversion twins.

3,5-Lutidine pentaaqua sulfate complexes of first-row transition metals: [M(3,5-lutidine)(H2O)5]SO4, with M = Mn, Co, Ni, and Zn

Project description:The structures of four metal 3,5-lutidine pentaaqua sulfates (Mn, Co, Ni, Zn) are presented and are shown to be isostructural. The reactions of MnSO4·H2O, CoSO4·7H2O, NiSO4·6H2O and ZnSO4·7H2O with 3,5-lutidine (3,5-dimethylpyridine) yield crystals of pentaaqua(3,5-dimethylpyridine-κN)manganese(II) sulfate, [Mn(C7H9N)(H2O)5]SO4, (1), pentaaqua(3,5-dimethylpyridine-κN)cobalt(II) sulfate, [Co(C7H9N)(H2O)5]SO4, (2), pentaaqua(3,5-dimethylpyridine-κN)nickel(II) sulfate, [Ni(C7H9N)(H2O)5]SO4, (3), and pentaaqua(3,5-dimethylpyridine-κN)zinc(II) sulfate, [Zn(C7H9N)(H2O)5]SO4, (4), which were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The four crystals are isostructural, demonstrating near identical unit-cell parameters and atomic positions. The metal atoms are all octahedrally coordinated, with one lutidine ligand and five water ligands. The sulfate dianion hydrogen bonds with the coordinated water molecules of the dicationic metal complex salts, generating infinite three-dimensional networks.

Project description:The title coordination polymer, poly[[μ-aqua-tri-aqua-(μ3-benzene-1,3,5-tri-carboxyl-ato)sodiumzinc] sesquihydrate], {[NaZn(C9H3O6)(H2O)4]·1.5H2O} n , was obtained in ionic liquid microemulsion at room temperture by the reaction of benzene-1,3,5-tri-carb-oxy-lic acid (H3BTC) with Zn(NO3)2·6H2O in the presence of NaOH. The asymmetric unit comprises two Na(+) ions (each located on an inversion centre), one Zn(2+) ion, one BTC ligand, four coordinating water mol-ecules and two solvent water molecules, one of which is disordered about an inversion centre and shows half-occupation. The Zn(2+) cation is five-coordinated by two carboxyl-ate O atoms from two different BTC ligands and three coordinating H2O mol-ecules; the Zn-O bond lengths are in the range 1.975 (2)-2.058 (3) Å. The Na(+) cations are six-coordinated but have different arrangements of the ligands: one is bound to two carboxyl-ate O atoms of two BTC ligands and four O atoms from four coordinating H2O mol-ecules while the other is bound by four carboxyl-ate O atoms from four BTC linkers and two O atoms of coordinating H2O mol-ecules. The completely deprotonated BTC ligand acts as a bridging ligand binding the Zn(2+) atom and Na(+) ions, forming a layered structure extending parallel to (100). An intricate network of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds is present within and between the layers.
