Effects of a Sudden Drop in Salinity on Scapharca subcrenata Antioxidant Defenses and Metabolism Determined Using LC-MS Non-targeted Metabolomics.

ABSTRACT: In this experiment, the effects of a sudden drop in salinity on the antioxidant defense system and related gene expression of the ark shell Scapharca subcrenata were examined. The sudden drop in seawater salinity after a rainstorm was simulated, and subsequently differentially expressed metabolic markers were identified by LC-MS non-targeted metabolomics. When the salinity dropped to 14‰ (S14), the total anti-oxidant content, activity of Na+/K+-ATPase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT), content of malondialdehyde, and expression levels of Mn-SOD, CAT, and C-type lectin of S. subcrenata were significantly higher than in groups with salinity of 22‰ (S22) or 30‰ (S30) (P?
